Largest nominal reduction in the federal deficit in American history
Shalanda Young, Director of the Office of Management and Budget:
Today’s CBO report projects that the deficit this year will fall by $1.7 trillion—the single largest nominal reduction in the federal deficit in American history.
With that historic reduction, our deficit this year will be lower than the CBO projected it would be before passage of the American Rescue Plan.
That means that our strong economic recovery, powered by President Biden’s economic and vaccination policies, also improved our nation’s fiscal position and reduced our deficit.
This progress wasn’t automatic or inevitable. It’s because this Administration has responsibly managed the pandemic, which allowed us to wind down emergency measures, combined with a significant increase in revenues stemming from an historically strong economic recovery.
The Biden Administration is committed to building on this progress and continuing to responsibly reduce the deficit, which is an important part of the President’s plan to tackle inflation.

Liberal in a Red State, Daily Kos member: Whatever the reason, it should always be her choice, and her choice alone, if she wants to proceed with a pregnancy or terminate it for any reason. The government cannot force you to donate blood to save another person’s life, even if they are bleeding out and die in front of you. And it doesn’t make you a murderer, punishable with years or even life in prison if you refused to donate blood to save someone’s life. ✂
In our society, it is 100% your choice if you want to donate blood or bone marrow or even a spare organ like a kidney or lung to save someone else’s life. Your organs cannot be removed from your dead body to save another person’s life without your expressed, written permission prior to your death. ✂
One of the best argument is not to argue “when life begins” as that is a philosophical argument that is based in radicalized, fabricated religious dogma. It’s a red herring. ✂
So let’s assume for argument's sake a fetus is a full person, no different from a baby or child. No baby, no child can force you to donate blood, bone marrow, a kidney to save their life so how can a person force you to donate your uterus for nine months to save their life? And yes, I am calling the fetus a person for the sake of this argument. They can’t. They shouldn’t. It’s wrong. Because it doesn't matter when "life" begins, no person, not even a fetus person, can force you to use your body against your will to save their life. Period.
WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
Good morning, WineRev!
Good morning 2thanks! The altar at the Gnuville church looks lovely for morning services and it was very kind of you to dust off the pulpit for me. I am up for a supply preaching gig here at the local Lutheran establishment this morning so once I “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable” (like any good sermon should do) I’ll swing by for services here in town and then for the local buffet. I will take a leaf from the Atlanta non-Baptist churches. They have figured out all the Baptists in town have an 11 am worship service, so the Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Episcopalians and even some Catholic and Orthodox parishes start their late service at 10:30. That way everyone can get to the Sunday buffets at various restaurants before the Baptists, meaning the lines are much shorter and quicker. (Reasonably true story.)
>>>>>>The Buffalo are back, back among the people and tribes that respect and even revere them. This story recounts the sad but finally positive outcome for a pair of Native American tribes to re-embrace the buffaloes into their culture. Yeah…..
May 29ths of long-standing Good-ness and wide-standing Goofy-ness, with deep-plumbing ponder-ables and high-flying giggles, all to give you a well-rounded Sunday and carry you through to the Monday of this 2 day weekend (because good grief, we need all the hope we can find.)
WineRev’s comment here.
Science
Beam me up, Scottie!
“Ronald Hanson at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and his colleagues built a simple network containing a number of diamond-based qubits arranged into three nodes, dubbed Alice, Bob and Charlie. There was no direct connection between Alice and Charlie, only an indirect link each shared with Bob. But Alice and Charlie shared a quantum entanglement, which means it is impossible to measure information from one of them without changing the state of the other.
When Charlie’s quantum state was changed, Alice’s state also changed, meaning information ‘teleported’ across Bob without passing through it.
‘It’s really teleportation as in science-fiction movies,’ says Hanson. “The state, or information, really disappears on one side and appears on the other side, and because it’s not travelling the space in between, [the data] can also not get lost.’”

Tech Talk for Kosacks
- Load-More Workaround (Revisions of 3/15/2022 in bold): On a desktop or laptop, to banish the Daily Kos Load More buttons, click this link, which opens the main Daily Kos page and shuts off the Load More buttons at the same time. You must Reload any open Daily Kos pages. After that, you’re good to go, but you may need to come back here and click that link again in a few weeks. The DK Help Desk asked me to add this: The “Load More” option also resets the user back to the display of the old-style, React comments.
- Got a Daily Kos tech question? Let us know. No question is too basic, even “What’s a Kosack?” or “What’s a Gnusie?”
- Solved a tech question recently? Please feel free to repeat it in the comments.

The 6 R’s of the Resistance
Joe Biden is now our President. However, we continue to stay vocal and active, we continue to pull Joe to the left, and we continue resist the GQP.
- Refresh and Rest: Take care of you, the hero: Eat well, exercise, and rest.
- Resist: Protest on the streets, call senators and representatives, etc.
- Rebel: Run for office, GOTV (Get Out The Vote), support a progressive.
- Revolt: Change the laws, change the culture, build your communities.
- Rely: Trust that millions of others are fighting the good fight.
- Rejoice: Joy promotes resilience and gives rise to hope.
How to Resist: Do Something …
From chloris creator:
Most important, we don’t give away our hope. The kleptocrats want you to lose your courage and determination. This is a giant and important fight for all of us but, win or lose, we keep fighting and voting and organizing and spreading truth and light. We never give up.
On Daily Kos:
We welcome comments in Roundups every day regarding:
- National or local Good News.
- Links, stories, music, videos, quotes, tweets. (No tweets or images of the saffron chlamidiot, please.)
- Your resistance activity.
In my Sunday smorgasbord Roundups, I especially welcome the following types of comments:
- Who won YOUR week?
- Questions about Daily Kos tech issues or our map.
- Good News Roundups and you.
- How are you resisting?
- Please let’s stick to Good News today, no mews or databases.
In the comments of all Roundups, we do not welcome Grammar Police or Debbie Downers.
Top Image: Starhawk created this diary’s top image of the rampant gnu and gave it to the members of the Good News Roundup group (Gnusies)! Thank you, Starhawk! This is a quite detailed sketch of a gnu drawn in brown, green, and black. A happy and dynamic gnu dances on its left hind leg in a classic rampant heraldric pose. Joyful letters prance above and behind the mane: “Happy Dance.” Signature: Nick Korolev, 2021.
A Little Bit About Me
What with caregiving and the birth of our first grandchild, life has been a little hectic lately, so I am postponing more celebrations of the 5-year anniversary of the founding of our Good News Roundups group.
Baby is fine, Mom fine. Baby was not making progress down the canal for a long time, so the child was brought in by C-section, and both Mom and baby survived the experience. With but not because of my encouragement, the child has an unmutilated penis. Yay on all counts!
Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 4 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
