During the first two decades of the twentieth century, an era before electronic media (radio and television), the internet, and social media, printed posters were an important advertising media. During World War I, posters were used to promote the War Effort, to encourage patriotism, and to gain support for the war. The Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio has a display of World War I posters.
According to the display:
“The poster was a major tool for sharing information during World War I. They primarily deal with recruitment, finance and homefront issues. Their colorful designs and sharp slogans encouraged people to stop, read and act.”
All of the posters in this display are prints; the originals are stored in the cases below the display.
