The mainstream media is calling the 2015 Charleston Church Massacre a hate crime. Others, such as John Stewart, are rightly calling it for what it is: an act of terrorism. White supremacists, white separatists, and other groups that advocate or condone racial violence are nothing less than terrorist organizations. If the Islamic State claimed responsibility for this crime we all know what the news media would be saying. It is no different just because a white supremacist committed the crime.
It is also time to look more closely at their facilitators: right-wing media outlets give them their voice, and the NRA makes sure they are well armed. Our politicians, and especially those on the right, kowtow to both. The NRA wraps itself in the American flag while at the same time making sure that those whose goals are the destruction of the rights that flag represents have all the weapons they want.
Spread the word: the NRA, the Confederacy coddling right-wing media, and their supporters in Congress facilitate terrorism in the USA. They are, in that respect, no different from whose who condone or support al Qaeda and the Islamic State. It is time they are forced to face their complicity in crimes like the Charleston Church Massacre.
