I know this is a late hour, which is purposeful as I am sure this will not be a popular diary, but I feel the need to write it none the less.
I myself ran for public office this year so I know the rigors and struggles to fundraise. However, as a relatively poor person who took a 10k cash advance on his credit card to help fund his own campaign, I am really frustrated.
I am asked and pushed and prodded to give more and more money to candidates. I try my best, every year. I gave to Stephanie Herseth when she ran against Janklow. I gave to Francince Busby when she ran in the special election. I consistently give every year to those who hope I can help. I gave to State Rep and Senate candidates in my home state. Its never been much, but I have never had much. Now I hear that the party needs money to make sure we are as successful as possible in the midterms, and there is a push for those of us who care to give more and more. Yet, incumbents who have NO opponent are sitting on over 20 MILLION dollars.

Hi, my name is Patrick Driscoll. I have a posted a few times about my State Representative race, but I would like the chance to share a bit more about myself and my race. I am running in one of the most conservative districts in the state. The current representative who is retiring may be a Democrat but he suffers from the same disease many do, where the party label means no more than an opportunity to be elected. For instance, he tried to impeach our Supreme Judicial Court for their gay marriage decision. He voted against closing coporate tax loopholes, and he is anti-choice. With his retirement, an opportunity has arisen. A chance to elect a Progressive Democrat to fill his seat.

I've not been on the campaign trail long, but I've learned a lot already. First lesson learned, even small campaigns for a state representative district can get very complex, very quickly. I've learned that grassroots really is the answer. I've learned not all political consultants are bad at what they do. I've learned that its usually right to go with your instincts and what you know, because your experience is shared by those around you. I've learned that people really are sick of business as usual. (come on keep reading. It gets better I swear.

for office as a state representative in Massachusetts. I know this is a national blog and this is more of a local race, but I wanted to share this news on Dailykos because it was of blogs like this among some others that made me feel like I could run and I could win. I was prepared to run against an incumbent because like many of the state representatives in Massachusetts, he was a Democrat, but he was very conservative. I was going to offer the progressive alternative in the primary.
However, before I could make the final decision to run and begin the filing process the incumbent announced he was not going to seek re-election, so its a whole new ballgame. Either way, I wanted to say thanks to Dailykos and thanks to everyone who posts and reads, the strength of a community has helped me find my voice. With this voice I hope to represent the people of Worcester's 6th District in Massachusetts.
