A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Good morning Kogs and Kossacks in Dailykosland!
Merry Monday and welcome to the working week.
Have you got a fun story about being in a wedding party?
June spoon honeymoon! The big wedding month is upon us.
Lots of people are getting married, and for every couple tying the knot there is often a large cast of surrounding characters. Some ceremonies have a bridal party so large that the opening procession takes as long than the wedding itself.
I heard about a wedding with a best man, a maid of honor, a matron of honor, six attendants for the groom, six bridesmaids, four junior bridesmaids, a banner bearer, ribbon bearers, a "mini-bride", a broom bearer, a ring bearer, a flower girl, and finally the bride and her father.
I've seen ribbon bearers in period piece movies like Sense and Sensibility, but a child carrying a banner that says "Here Comes the Bride"? And I never heard of a mini-bride until a few years ago. It's a role for girl slightly older than flower girl age but younger than junior bridesmaid age, but she s not dressed like the bridesmaids, she wears a white dress that looks like a bridal gown! Is this the done thing now?
With that kind of over the top pomp and pageantry it's no wonder some folks prefer a simple and easy trip to City Hall.
When my cousin "Yolanda" got married, I was just the right age to be a flower girl. She ended up getting married in a simple ceremony at home, though, and I lost my first chance to be in a wedding party.
When my other cousin "Yvette" got married ten years later, I was a bridesmaid. All I remember these many decades later is walking down the aisle of Plymouth Congregational Church very slowly in uncomfortable shoes, carrying a mini-bouquet.
Oh and that the dress was normal looking and I was able to wear it again.
Just a few years after that, I was one of only five people at the marriage of a very dear friend. The bride and groom, the justice of the peace and his wife and little old me stood in the JP's living room and it was all over in just a few minutes.
That's the sum total of my experience as a member of a wedding party. Most of my other close friends are not married, or I was unable to participate in their weddings for other reasons.
So I don't have any stories of horrendous bridesmaid dresses, wild bachelorette parties, misplaced rings, emotional freakouts in the limo, or embarrassing toasts at the reception.
Do you?
Were you an impossibly cute ring bearer or flower girl? Did you pay big bucks for a hideous light blue leisure suit or polyester hoop skirt dress you will never wear again? Were you best man for your Army buddy? Or matron of honor for your best friend from college? Did you "give away" the bride or present someone to be married as a stand-in for a missing relative? Were you the only witness at City Hall, or part of a 30-minute entrance procession in a majestic cathedral? Do you have an interesting story about being a female best man, or a male bridesmaid?
Do you have a fun memory about being in a wedding?
