A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Good morning Kogs and Kossacks in Dailykosland!
Merry Monday and welcome to the working week.
How many times have you moved?
Apparently the average person in the United States makes 12 moves over the course of a lifetime. I am a little bit ahead of that average, and I probably have a few moves ahead of me.
I have moved 19 times and have lived in seven cities and towns starting with my beloved childhood home in Washington, DC and two other apartments in DC, six dorm addresses in Cambridge and three apartments in Cambridge, three addresses in New York City (one each of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and The Bronx), one address in each of these three Boston suburbs: North Andover, Andover, and Arlington, and three places in Boston proper: one apartment in Allston and two apartments in Brighton (yes, they are different neighborhoods).
The first two moves were childhood moves I did not have to do anything for. Mom did all the work and all I had to do was show up. When I went away to college, various family members helped, including an uncle who, instead of helping, LOST all my record albums which was a tremendous psychological blow for someone who loved music as much as I did. I did not forgive him for more than 20 years.
The moves between dorms were easy because all I had was college student stuff—no furniture to move, just clothes and books and records and other small possessions. One trip in a friend's borrowed car was plenty, although I think I used a shopping cart to walk the very last of my stuff from Eliot House to Quincy House.
Over the years I acquired the usual furniture, and the usual suitcases so that I did not have to move my clothes in plastic bags as I did during some of my young adult moves. Most of the time I moved I left hundreds of books behind... small libraries worth of hardcovers and paperbacks. I could not bear to throw books away and they were too heavy to take with me.
The last time I moved was a very short distance, only five blocks from one Brighton address to another, shorter even than the walk between Eliot and Quincy House. But I had to hire movers (Gentle Giant) for hundreds of dollars, because I had my own furniture and all my mom's furniture from when she moved in with me. I got rid of some big pieces since I was moving from a two bedroom apartment to a one bedroom. But it was so close to September 1 the only moving vans available were big enough to move a huge house and my stuff just sat in one corner of the enormous truck. I gave the movers big tips because they had to carry lots of heavy boxes of books up a couple of flights of stairs. And that was after I had already donated dozens of boxes to Got Books. The movers were college guys and they called carrying boxes of books up and down stairs "getting paid to work out".
Moving is stressful and disorienting. I hate moving. I am so busy I barely have time for regular housecleaning. The prospect of cleaning up enough to pack and move is horrifying.
But I've been in my current apartment for seven years and am ready to move again.
I believe my life is on the verge of positive change and a new neighborhood would add to that feeling of a fresh start.
So as soon as I get back from NN14 I am going to spend the rest of my vacation trying to find an apartment available on September 1. It's the worst day to move in Boston because everyone else is moving, but it's also the best day to move because that's when all the good apartments turn over.
Moving for the 20th time. To address number 21. Oh. Joy.
Actually, it will be well worth it if I can get lucky enough to find a decent affordable place in Cambridge, shorten my commute, and manage to create a comfortable home for myself as I move into the next stage of my life.
Do you have a multi-story house with decades worth of accumulated stuff that would be a nightmare to move? Or do you live simply and travel light, with barely enough possessions to fill a tiny pull-along U-haul? Have you made so many moves you have it down to a science? Do you avoid moving so much you're still living in your childhood home?
How many times have you moved?

by Avilyn ♥ for New Jersey Kossacks
The New Jersey Kossacks held their inaugural meet-up on June 14, 2014. Thanks so much to Avilyn for taking up the reins and leading this important group. She noticed in all of the Christy diaries that many New Jersey folk came out of lurking or signed up to comment. She was motivated by this to start this group. I'm glad because there's a lot of work to do in New Jersey. I also noticed in her start-up diaries that many people couldn't attend this event but wanted to be invited to the next event. She had 18 Kossacks sign up with her first announcement of the new group. This is excellent and I'm sure there are more New Jersey Kossacks out there.
Here's the group photo:

Please visit Avilyn's diary for many MORE photos plus food pr0n! Enjoy! You can still REC it. You can join New Jersey Kossacks by sending a Kosmail to Avilyn.
Event Organizers! Please contact wink from Netrootsradio.com by KosMail to schedule airtime with them to live broadcast your Event. Wink & Justice will then promote it on The After Show radio program!
