So right before I left for work this morning I heard just a little snippet of a news story suggesting DJT was considering the possibility of a first strike against North Korea.
A nuclear strike.
Against North Korea.
Because DJT is afraid that they are close to having bombs that could reach the U.S., and his whole personality is “get them before they get you”:
“...if an ICBM attack was imminent the President would have to conduct a preemptive strike.”
What the everloving FUCK?
I was freaked out enough to curse on a Sunday.
But I was running late (as always) and had to leave right then and be off line for several hours, unable to find out any more information about whether this was serious.
Was DJT actually considering moving tactical nukes into South Korea? In basically a pissing match with Kim Jong Un? Could this really be happening? Is it a bluff he will back down from?
What if it is not a bluff?
Remember this chilling quote attributed to DJT about nuclear weapons from his early intelligence briefings?
If we have them, why can’t we use them?
Back when DJT first made that statement, I had a revelation.
Maybe DJT and his supporters do not realize that nuclear war could mean the end of the world.
First of all, they don’t know because they are *old*.
Their frame of reference for bombs is the A bomb of their youth.
They know we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the world didn't come to an end. Some of them remember test explosions in the desert and in the Pacific islands and the world didn’t come to an end. There were no dangerous repercussions for the US whatsoever. In fact, dropping the bomb is credited with the win in the Pacific Theater.
The fact that there were no repercussions because no one else had the bomb then never occurs to them.
They don’t know because they are (willfully) *ignorant*.
Some do not know the difference between the atomic bomb and the hydrogen bomb, or that the H bomb is *much* more powerful than the A bomb.
Some of them do not even know that the US is no longer the only country with the bomb.
When DJT starts talking about nuclear bombs and sane people freak out, in their minds we are merely overreacting. Why can’t we just drop a few bombs to teach them who’s who?
Geopolitical complexities like proxy wars are as beyond them as four syllable adjectives are beyond the man who ends all his tweets with “Sad” and “Bad”.
Third, they don’t know because they *reject science*.
As a result, they don’t understand radiation poisoning. They remember the old “duck and cover” civil defense film that was shown in schools:
It focused on radioactive fallout as if it were nothing but dust you could avoid by hiding under a blanket, or protect your skin from burns with a newspaper. The idea that radiation poisoning is invisible but can still kill you and other living tissue is something they were not taught back then. So they don’t know that covering the back of your neck with your hands will not protect you from what you breathe in. “Stay covered until the danger is over” implies that after the bomb has exploded, you are safe if you were not hurt in the immediate blast. They don’t exactly cover this subject in boarding school. Or in homeschool either. A popular homeschool program among deplorables (The Robinson Curriculum) was written by a total RWNJ who understands so little about radioactivity that he once suggested sprinkling radioactive waste in our drinking water would give people greater resistance to disease.
O for the blissful ignorance of the non-reality based.
One of the shows that does the “man on the street” interviews should ask people whether they think we could survive nuclear war. Or how many bombs they think we could drop on another country before a retaliatory bomb came flying our way. Or, if the US and Russia started lobbing nuclear weapons at each other, how many people would die before the war came to an end. (And how many would die months and years after.)
Nah, too easy.
And it wouldn’t really be funny, actually.
At least DJT in his briefings has finally figured out that nuclear holocaust would be like no other.
If only there was a way to get that across to more of his followers.
Sad.
