These are the blocks for CSM's star quilt
I last wrote about CSM's star quilt in April -- and in the interim, I've posted quilt diaries for four quilts regarding cancer and another for a star quilt for Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, scene of a brutal and racially motivated mass murder last month.
Michael has been so patient in waiting -- and Ann and I really want to get his quilt done and out to him. He is most deserving of a community quilt for all that he quietly does for the community, including organizing a road trip to see Cedwyn as she lay dying. And now he has a chronic disease, himself -- COPD -- which is not easy for him to bear. We intend to work on it simultaneously with the Emanuel AME Church quilt, now possible because Ann is on medical leave from her part time job.
We have all the messages and the quilt is funded! Thank you to everyone!
Detail of Meteor Blades' quilt, showing the space restriction for star quilt messages.
Because the patches are little diamond lozenges, I do not have as much room to write in as with the usual community quilts -- so please keep your message to Michael short and pithy.
I have transcribed 80 of Michael's messages so far -- here is how they will sit in the quilt.
It takes time and expense to make a community quilt and it is a living for me and my sister. If you would like to contribute toward CSM's quilt, here is a PayPal link or message me for an address should you prefer a check. $15/message is suggested for most of our quilts although some give more to cover for those who cannot afford to donate. But this will be a more complicated piece and will take considerably more time to make than our usual community quilt. And I plan to quilt it by hand. Michael's quilt will be worth the extra time, I promise!
The first quilt we made for a cancer patient since April was for Celtic Lassie. Tragically, she is no longer with us and her father mourns for her every day. We lost a bright light when she left our sphere.

After Gordon20024's quilt, we made one for WisePiper. He has lung cancer -- and it is not his first rodeo. But he has determined it will be his last. WisePiper's intent is to spare himself and his family any further suffering by ending his life through Physician Assisted Suicide later this month. We will miss him and his wit very much.
These quilts are planned. If you would like to propose someone for a quilt, just drop me a line.
RubDMC's wife (Alzheimer's)
byardl (fibromyalgia, pnuemonia, widow)
dangoch (newly widowed)
MA Liberal (caretaker to her mother who has dementia)

MsGrin (life long heart problems requiring multiple surgeries)
This is the beginning of crystal eyes' quilt -- his is the fourth quilt for cancer that has come up since I first posted for CSM's star quilt. Crystal eyes has brain cancer -- and we still need messages for his quilt. If you have a message for him, please Kos mail me!
