With all the focus on the economy and foreign affairs a little known duty of the POTUS goes unnoticed. Barack Obama took on this duty and is handling it with the grace that reveals his true character. What is this duty? Sending letters to the survivors of our fallen military members. In an article Obama signs 'Barack' to fallen troops' kin in the Washington Times, it is talked about how Barack Obama pens these notes personally. He is signing them simply Barack.
It notes the personal touch he gives each one. It is a solemn and sobering duty. He has his staff research the members background. It isn't some form letter. He states in the moments of signing those letters
"you realize every decision you make counts."
Not surprisingly he did this while serving as a U.S. senator for fallen Illinois troops. Something so seemingly small yet so powerful for those remaining family members says to me that he truly gets it and won't waste the lives of our troops needlessly. I look ever forward to his tenure as Commander in Chief.
Be Well
