OMG who knew! The job of President of the United States is hard! Who knew? Obviously not Donald Trump.
Donald Trump, the great negotiator, tried fluffing Kim Jong Un obviously thinking he would ingratiate himself with the authoritarian ruler of North Korea. First Trump said he takes ruthless dictator Kim Jong Un at his word that he knew nothing about Otto Warmbier’s imprisonment by the North Korean regime and ultimate death. Sure.
The blowback was hard and fast. The Warmbier family released a scorching statement www.google.com/... that, while not naming Trump, was clearly intended as a response.
Then, his mouthpieces tried to spin his statement that taking Kim at his word does not mean he believes him!

National security adviser John Bolton on Sunday argued that just because President Trump said he took North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at his word that he did not know about the treatment of American Otto Warmbier does not mean he actually believes it.
"When he says 'I'm going to take him at his word,' it doesn't mean that he accepts it as reality. It means that he accepts that was what Kim Jong Un said," Bolton said on "Fox News Sunday."
And finally, he publicly whined about what a horrible terrible awful position he is in, having to negotiate with someone who the entire world knows did something awful. Here’s Trump obviously realizing he made a big mistake and trying to spin it and walk it back- sort of, justifying his terrible words
“We got our great people back. That includes our beautiful beautiful Otto. Otto Warmbier, whose parents I’ve gotten to know, who’s incredible. And I’m in such a horrible position, because in one way I have to negotiate, and the other way I love Mr. and Mrs. Warmbier. And I love Otto. And it’s a very, very delicate balance. He was a special young man and to see what happened was so bad.”

The video is also at the link if you can bear to watch.
Yeah pretty much that’s what the whole job of President consists of. Managing delicate balances of difficult situations. Poor poor Donald Trump being thrust into reality. A family tragically lost their son, but this situation is horrible for Donald Trump. The narcissist speaks.
Republicans had a freak out

when Barack Obama was overheard telling Putin he’d be in a better negotiating position once the election was over and still point to this as an example of his supposed incompetence and double dealing.
This is an issue independents and conservatives care about. Trump exploited this tragedy , pointing to the Warmbier family at his SOTU, as if he had accomplished something because their son was finally home. Here’s hoping that this incident is not soon forgotten and Trump has to pay for his true incompetence. Welcome to the real world you whiny little baby. You know what makes this so hard? Trying to negotiate on the spur of the moment, with no principles or moral compass to guide you. Suck it up you toddler.
No Matt Bai, this is not the part that sounds harsh. Looks like people are finally starting to notice who Donald Trump is.
