The Japanese attached glass floats to their fishing nets. Sometimes these glass floats would be torn loose in storms and then journey across the Pacific Ocean, arriving at the beaches of Oregon and Washington where they were eagerly sought by beachcombers. The North Lincoln County Historical Museum in Lincoln City, Oregon, has a display case filled with Japanese glass fishing floats.
