For those of you old enough to remember the election of 2004, its probably still painful in some way. I was living in Ohio at the time, working my ass off at ground zero for what would become our devastating and humiliating defeat. It still stings. It hurts partially because there was so much passion for beating George W. Bush. During the primaries, it seemed like we were unstoppable. We had all the momentum, and a great candidate in Dr/Gov Dean making the case against the Iraq war in a forceful and meaningful way.
Then, seemingly inexplicably, we nominated John Kerry. Its still hard to say what happened but basically, in my view Iowa voters simply got scared of their own shadow and nominated the “safe, electable” candidate. In reality, Kerry was neither of those things (and he had voted for the Iraq war to boot). The Dean scream/media hype put the nail in the coffin, but it wasn’t really why Dean lost.
Fast forward to 2016, we are up against another absolutely despicable candidate. A candidate that has no business being anywhere near the oval office. Much like in 2004, we also have a candidate who is forcefully advocating for issues we care about. And once again we are nominating who all the pundits and other associated smart people view as the “safe, electable” candidate.
And, quelle surprise, here is how that candidate is doing: LOSING TO DONALD FREAKING TRUMP! You honestly just can’t even make this shit up. Like a horrible case of deja vu playing out all over again.

Just like in 2004, we are going to have no one to blame but ourselves when and if the inconceivable becomes reality. Thanks for reading
