Current incumbent governor L Lingle not can run because she come to term limits in 2010. For gubernatorial race this is good new but for senate races is bad.
The last polls are unfavourables for L Lingle against senator D Inouye and maybe senator D Akaka can win L Lingle too. The problem for hawaian democrtats is the age of this two veteran senators. The hawaian democrats must think in the change and in like wish make the change. The change not is necessarily urgent but think in the change is urgent.
For HI-Gov race we must have in mind this situation. Is very important win this race. Now, for example if any of senators died governor L Lingle would choose the next senator. I hope after 2010 Hawaii have democrat governor for this, and for make more progressive politics in this state. Not necessarily the change in senate must came from open seat elections. If L Lingle like run for senate maybe better she must run against incumbent senators all times.
This is the list of possible candidates:
- John David Waihe'e III: HI 1946 Governor of Hawaii 86-94. Lieutenant Governor of HI 82-86.
- Benjamin Jerome Cayetano (*): HI 1939 Governor of Hawaii 94-02. Lieutenant Governor of HI 86-94.
- Neil Abercrombie (*): NY HI 1938 USHRep 86-87 91- . Lost for Senate 70. Lost for House 86.
- Mazie Keiko Hirono: JAP HI 1947 USHRep 07- . Lieutenant Governor of HI 94-02. Lost for Governor 02.
- Edward Espenett Case: HI 1952 USHRep 02-07. Lost for Senate 06.
- Muliufi Francis Hannemann: HI 1954 Mayor of Honolulu 05- . Lost for House 86 86 and 90. Lost for Mayor of Honolulu 00.
- Colleen Hanabusa: HI 1951 President of HI Senate 03- .
(*) Habitually candidates of this age not are incuded in the lists of candidates but in Hawaii we must include because the list get very short and because they are importants for democrats from Hawaii.
I think from this list can out the next governor of Hawaii and next two senators from this state if can defeat L Lingle. For me J Waihe'e, N Abercrombie and B Cayetano can be the strongest democrat candidates for replace D Inouye and D Akaka in the right moment and N Abercrombie, M Hirono or Ed Case for governor. Now seems N Abercrombie think in run for governor. I think he can be good candidate.
In republican side the same list is more short still. Only L Lingle and J Aiona, and L Lingle not can run again for governor. For that we can think J Aiona can be the republican candidate for governor of Hawaii in 2010.
