Severe Weather Liveblog is a collective effort to keep Kossacks safe when a large severe weather outbreak takes place. These blogs will be posted as needed, based on user-interaction (comments) and evolution of the severe weather event.
If you have emergency information that needs to be added to the diary (reports of tornadoes on the ground, emergency information telephone numbers, etc.), please indicate so in the subject line of the comment to lessen the delay in posting it to the diary.
Right now, aside from myself, the editors of Severe Weather Liveblog are not4morewars, boatsie and Predictor. If you'd like to help, drop me a message.
Please keep in mind that any Severe Weather Liveblogs posted are not places for tasteless cracks at other people's expense. Post cheap political/social shots towards those affected at your own risk.
We've had 3 reports of tornadoes today, with one fatality in Franklin County, TN, and now the storms are pushing into the more densely populated areas of the southeast.
There have been tornado warnings for Greenville/Spartanburg in SC, the densely populated suburbs of Atlanta, and a few counties just north of Charlotte, NC. A strong line of severe thunderstorms with quarter sized hail and winds of 70+ MPH extends from the NC/VA border right down through central Alabama, where golfball sized hail was reported in Birgmingham just an hour or so ago.

Updates
UPDATE 1 (Added before diary published)
Here are the radars from the tornado warnings listed above...
Georgia:
South Carolina:
North Carolina:
See Update 10 below...this storm had a confirmed tornado touchdown in Statesville.
Alabama:
UPDATE 2 (416PM CST)
Looks like Alpharetta just got slammed, and Roswell is getting it right now. Anyone in the area to give us a status report?
UPDATE 3 (419PM CST)
New severe thunderstorm watch up from Raleigh NC to Macon GA. Triciawyse is gonna kick my ass now.
UPDATE 4 (422PM CST)
There's a nasty hook in the storm right near the Greenville/Spartanburg Airport that made my heart skip a beat when I saw it. Out of all the tornado warnings, this one has the greatest potential to cause a touchdown.
UPDATE 5 (432PM CST)
48 counties across NC, SC, GA and AL are under either a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning right now. That is a HUGE chunk of real estate. There are 3 counties in Delaware, so it's like Delaware being under a warning 16 times over. That's big.
UPDATE 6 (437PM CST)
The tornado warning for the Atlanta area has been dropped, but don't let your guard down yet. A large area just NE of the City is now under a severe thunderstorm warning for possible damaging winds in excess of 60 MPH.
UPDATE 7 (441PM CST)
Made a factual correction to the top of the diary, with much gratitude to arielle in the comments for pointing it out. The tornado-related fatality in Tennessee was in Franklin County, not the city of Franklin, which is somewhere else.
UPDATE 8 (455PM CST)
New Severe Weather Liveblog editor not4morewars sums it up very well in a comment below:
Surface data and radar (1+ / 0-)
as of 4:47PM CST. If I were east of this line I would be watching radar for any bulges in it. If you are on the north edge of one of those stay alert.
UPDATE 9 (501PM CST)
New tornado warning up for Douglas and Fulton counties in Georgia, including the area just south of Atlanta proper.
UPDATE 10 (507PM CST)
Confirmed tornado in Statesville, NC. Touchdown on I-40 with no reports of damage as of yet. Refer to the first update above for a radar shortly after the storm moved through Statesville.
