The two Edries...on the left is Edrie who blogs as edrie, on the right, Edrie who blogs as edgery. Photo snitched from edrie...
The folks at the registration booth at NN14 had a big shock on the Saturday of the conference. One of their volunteers, edgerie, took a tumble and broke her ankle, badly. She broke it so badly that her foot was pointed in a very unnatural direction. MsSpentyouth immediately went to her side and kept her calm and would not let her look at her foot until the EMTs arrived. Then followed a lonnnnnggggg day in the ER -- and a painful trip back to DC where she had surgery.
Actually, she had surgery twice, once for the ankle and once for a spiral break in a finger that she injured while trying to learn how to use her crutches.
This was a trauma that is going to take some time to heal. We are not there to sign her cast so instead, we are doing something better. We are making a community quilt for edgery.
We are short 19 messages and $417 for this quilt.
newpioneer's quilt -- it arrived safely in Puerto Rico.
What is a community quilt? It is a quilt containing loving words from you, transcribed by me in archival ink on muslin and sewn into a colorful quilt by me and my sister, Ann. The power of words to heal is pretty incredible -- ask any of the recipients. Edgery will know, when she wraps up in this quilt, that she is not alone in spirit and that there are so, so many people who are seeing her whole and healed from this accident. It will help, trust me!
Firefly border for newpioneer's quilt
It takes time and material to make one of these quilts - and it is a living for me and my sister. If you would like to contribute toward its cost, here is a PayPal link or message me for an address if you prefer a check. $15/message is suggested but some give more to cover for the messages of those who cannot afford to contribute. That being said, all messages are welcome, regardless of donation!
This pictures shows the backing fabric for newpioneer's quilt. We love the hot, tropical colors. And if it is a little reminiscent of a rainbow flag, well, good!
