On Saturdays, the True Blue Report “Blue Ribbon” will be awarded to individuals or groups with the most successful, dramatic, or encouraging act of resistance in the previous week.
Some winners will be named in the body of the diary and you can nominate other worthy ribbon winners in the comments.
We have to start with David Fahrenthold, because he received the most obvious and visible resistance award in winning the Pulitzer Prize for his writing about DJT’s finances.
There’s nothing more satisfying in times like these than good old fashioned Woodstein sifting through slips at the Library of Congress investigative reporting. This is the kind of hard core resistance work the other side cannot counterattack. Fight up close, seize the moment and stay in it. Rcons are pretty much helpless to stop you.
Best thing about it is I’m sure it drove DJT completely around the twist. As someone on Twitter helpfully points out: they don’t give Pulitzer Prizes to fake news.
Big blue ribbon to Fahrenthold for continuing the very best tradition of the WaPo that I thought was long gone.
It must really suck to get called on your BS by a nine year old.
Who has a better vocabulary than you.
When I first heard this, I did not know that Little Miss Flint was a PoC. That’s just the cherry on top of this feel-good resistance story.
Did I say upthread that nothing is more satisfying than old-fashioned investigative reporting?
I take that back.
Nothing is more satisfying that seeing elementary-school-age children combine political understanding with effective communication strategies.
I keep seeing her referred to by her “pageant” title, and I wanted to highlight her actual name: Amariyanna Copeny.
Have a blue ribbon as tall as you are, Mari!
Chasity Wells-Armstrong, brand new Democratic mayor of Kankakee, gets to be the stand-in for all the Democratic municipal candidates who kicked butt and took names in red parts of Illinois (does that pretty much mean everything outside Chicago?), some winning seats that had been held by Republicons for more than 100 years! h/t Laura Clawson
But the real unsung shero turns out to be Rep. Cheri Bustos and her Build The Bench idea for walking first-time candidates step by step through the how to run effective campaigns.
No uncontested seats bay bee, so if Rs are used to running unopposed in your area, it is brilliant to organize a one-day boot camp for sharing institutional knowledge with prospective candidates. This is an excellent idea that should be copied. every. where.
Republicons are saying what you’d expect them to say: oh these were just municipal elections, where turning out just a tiny percentage of your normally non-voting base can easily flip a seat.
Well, duh. That’s kind of true at every level of voting.
GOoPers must be quaking in their boots.
Scads of blue ribbons rolling out for Chasity-Wells Armstrong and all the other Dems with surprise wins (which was all of them frankly), and an extra large one for Cheri Bustos taking action that, if replicated around the country, could redraw the map substantially.
Dr. Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon, wrote these poignant words describing the protective feeling that came over him when he first saw the entire earth from space:
You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch.’
The Autonomous Space Agency Network attached the last seven words of that quote on a weather balloon they launched on the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s 1961 flight that made him the first human in space.
And for good measure, they made it clear the sentiment was aimed at a particular person:
For utter creativity and mic-drop cool, ASAN (read it backwards) wins an orbiting blue ribbon for what is being called the first protest in space!
Just thinking of the idea is taking resistance to a whole new level.. of the stratosphere!
