Looks like those wacky Florida polls just don't do justice to the Republican GOTV operation in one state, do they. Gore beats Bush by a point in 2000, Kerry beats Bush by 3-4 in 2004, and the Republican response is, "Oh, the polls must be wrong."
And when the votes are counted, Bush manages to get a lead of some sort - 537* votes last year, a few hundred thousand this year. And some numbers don't quite add up (see any of the recent recommended diaries). If we can't verify the votes, maybe we can verify the VOTERS.
ACT, MoveOn, etc. have lists of Florida voters - however million of them there are. They've got thousands of volunteers. Why not get them to call people, ask if they voted - do it on a precinct level first, or whatever the lowest verifiable level is, so it's not a huge project if it turns out to be wrong - and then compare those totals? If we find out, for example, that only 3,333,333 votes were counted for Kerry but that 4,444,444 votes were attempted, we'll know something's up.
