It’s St. Patrick’s Day. Yay.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

There appears to be a specific set of microbes that drive decomposition of animal flesh, no matter where in the world it happens to be.
The Aylesbury egg. A 1700 year old chicken egg, complete with intact yolk and white was discovered during an archaeological dig a few years back. Apparently, it was one of several, but it was the only one that didn’t break during the excavation.
Mappa Mundi. The greatest medieval map of the known world. It includes Japan and shows Africa as being circumnavigable.

Last Sunday, I was notified of a software update being available — for the OS. I started it after shutting things down, expecting that would be necessary. It told me the download would take 9 days. About half an hour later, it said 8 days. At which point, I remembered something I needed to check online and decided to see what happened if I fired things up again. It slowed the download a little, but after about another couple of hours, it was telling me 7 days. It was still telling me 7 days when I shut all the stuff I was using down for the night (though I left the computer on and the download running). When I looked at things Monday morning, the download said 4 days, though when I opened things up to check my email and otherwise play, it went up to 5 days. I ignored it for about two hours and when I checked again, the download was about two-thirds complete and it was saying 4 days again. It continued saying 4 days until it was complete. I think everything is okay now because I shut down and restarted and things are working.
I haven’t had trouble with losing my internet connection since the I rebooted after the download was complete. However, a game site that has a couple things I enjoy is still not loading properly.

I have everything in order to re-install the grab bar in my bathroom (which I also use as a towel bar) except the second pair of hands. My granddaughter didn’t show in spite of agreeing to help.
My grandson helped with the grab bar — apparently, his sister managed to acquire heatstroke somehow. Don’t ask me — it’s not especially cold here, but I hadn’t thought the temperature was high enough to induce heatstroke.

On Friday, I had an early dinner with the pair of high school classmates that we worked together to do three of our class’s high school reunions. We went to the Mio Sushi where I’ve been taking the kids. None of us had sushi; but they enjoyed their tempura and I tried one of the noodle dishes that appears to be a house specialty — rather spicier than most Japanese food, but quite tasty.
The woman said she was going to be checking on how my arthritis is doing. I hope she was joking, because if she does what she said, it will not end well.
Her husband is a CPA who would like to retire, but none of the current partners are up to his standards for who should take over. And he’s still buying out the share of the business that belonged to the remaining original partner who just retired. I think that’s what she said, anyway.

Love you guys!
