Socrates was a famous Greek teacher who went around giving people advice. They killed him. Socrates died from an overdose of wedlock.
After his death, his career suffered a dramatic decline.
From a 6th grader's research project...
The above quote isn't in reference to anything - it's from a Joke-of-the-Day email I subscribe to, and I felt like sharing.
Below the fold, another in my Impeachment Watch roundup series, this time covering the Sept. 15th protests, impeachment, Blackwater, MoveOn, and more. The Jena 6, Habeas Corpus, and the Webb troop rotation bill will have to wait. Prior to the roundup, I do have a brief commentary - well perhaps it's more a bit of a rant.

In the past month or so, I've noticed some commentary here and elsewhere that the time of protests and demonstrations is past. I've also read commentary about some demonstrations hurting the cause by virtue of looking and/or acting in extreme fashion, whether it be getting out of Iraq, impeachment, or some other issue. There are at least a couple of references below to that effect. There is also the issue of garnering media attention.
Since the start of Magical September, Republicans have held the line for President Bush. Some of the Democratic leadership seems to have firmed up behind definitive withdrawal timelines as a condition of further war funding, but their efforts to this point have been ineffectual. Last week, the restoration of Habeas Corpus failed in the Senate, as did the Webb amendment for troops to have at least as much time at home as they have deployed into the Iraq or Afghanistan war zones. But the Senate was able to pass a sense of the Senate resolution denouncing the MoveOn ad which suggested that Gen. Petraeus' report was more a White House product than an honest assessment of the situation in Iraq. YEE HAW! We're making progress now, buddy!
While my personal style is not to be disruptive, confrontational, or otherwise make a spectacle of myself, outrageous appearances and actions are able to generate news. John Stewart accuses Code Pink of not helping. Even here, when the MoveOn ad first appeared, there were diarists who dismissed it. Even with the Senate vote against MoveOn, some of the diaries I read took the attitude of "I disagree with what you said, but I will defend your right to say it." In the meantime, the Bush/Cheney administration is able to proceed leisurely toward their exit while leaving behind countless messes, like children unable to put away their toys. They treat our military forces like little plastic army guys. As for the rest of the country, they have treated us as frogs sitting comfortably in a pot of water as they slowly turned up the heat. At this point, I'm feeling pretty well boiled.
As of Sunday, there are 484 days left for Bush and Cheney to continue fucking up the country, not to mention the rest of the world (h/t Bush Countdown Blog). What's it going to take? $5/gallon gas? a new draft? another domestic terror attack? another bungled response to a natural disaster? How many thousands have died prematurely on this administration's watch? How many have lost health coverage? How many are unemployed or underemployed, but have given up looking for better? What would the shape of our economy be if it weren't for the hundreds of billions borrowed to spend on the defense industry and mismanaged wars? When will it be enough?
In one of the diaries proclaiming that the time of protest is over, a diarist asked what had happened to the ENOUGH! protest campaign. We're still here. Following the roundup, I list 53 separate Sunday protests, and I might easily have missed some. Vista, California may or may not be taking the week off. Wino should be starting a protest in Austin. Someone from SF Kossacks suggested she was getting something going in Napa this weekend.
At some point, we have to jump out of the pot, or we're just frog legs for someone's dinner. Our representatives are stuck in a Washington Beltway Bubble and have forgotten how to take bold action. The Democrats have complained about not having the votes, and point to their slim majority. Paul Krugman counters in his spanking new New York Times blog, The Conscience of a Liberal, that the current House majority is larger than any the Republicans had over their 12 years in control, in addition to being more progressive than the pre-1994 majority. ENOUGH! It's time for us to stand up and push our representatives to represent us.
Here ends my rant. On to the roundup...

So far, 20 representatives have signed on to H. Res. 333 to impeach Cheney, and 86 cities that I am aware of have passed impeachment resolutions (not counting one against Rumsfeld).
