Welp, it is Toosdai and so it is the day for some srs mischiefery with a mashery of Ogden Nashery (illustrated)! Let’s see what today is and if we have Ogden’s poetry to cover it… Googles… we do! Well, sort of! Since this post is an Open Thread, so please feel free to discuss and to post your favorite illustrated pomes in the Comments also too!

I have an idea that the phrase “weaker sex” was coined by some woman to disarm the man she was preparing to overwhelm.

There don’t appear to be Ogden Nash pomes about ideas that we haven’t already covered, but it’s Swap Ideas Day, so I have an idea: What about fish? Ogden had plenty to say about fish!

I’m sure that Europe never had
A fish as tasty as the shad.
Some people greet the shad with groans,
Complaining of its countless bones;
I claim the bones teach table poise
And separate the men from boys.

the codfish

The codfish is a staple food
For which I’m seldom in the mood.
This fish is such an utter loss
That people eat it with egg sauce,
One of the odd fish codfish habits
I leave to the Lowells and to the Cabots.

Eat moar fish instead of meat, reduce your carbon footprint!
