We have so many insightful and powerful diaries written here at Daily Kos. Our diaries inform, inflame, impassion, and even entertain. We Kossacks have strong voices and an even stronger will to be the change we wish to see in this country.
One of the richest, and perhaps most under-appreciated, areas of thought come in the form of comments attached to these diaries.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and through nominations at made at topcomments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks.
These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But hopefully they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.

I. Live from the Seattle Drinking Liberally Precinct Caucus!
Iowa?
Who the hell gives a rip about Iowa?
I'd much rather attend the Seattle Drinking Liberally Precinct Caucus, tonight at 8:00 PM Pacific at the Montlake Ale House, located at 2307 24th Ave E in Seattle.
Why?
Well let's face it folks. For far too long, we've let those damn Iowans determine who is to be or presidential nominee.
But more importantly, there is beer at this caucus.
Now, mcjoan already mentioned this on the front page, and N in Seattle wrote a wonderful diary detailing the procedure at this important first of the year caucus.
From N's diary:
As closely as possible, our caucus will be run just like the real Washington Democratic precinct caucuses that will take place on the afternoon of February 9. Which means that:
#####
UPDATE:
In a comment below, RonK Seattle points out that this year's rules for the Washington caucuses have removed the 15% threshold at the precinct level. The relevant section on page 16 of the 2008 Washington Delegate Selection Plan is as follows (emphasis added):
Each presidential preference, which receives 15% or more of the votes cast at a meeting, (except at the precinct caucus level where no threshold is required) shall receive his or her share of the delegates allotted. If no presidential preference reaches the 15% threshold, the threshold shall be the highest percentage received by a presidential preference minus 10%. Alternates shall be allocated in the same proportion as delegates.
Yeah, yeah, my eyes are glazing over too.
mcjoan will be liveblogging the event (which starts at 8:00 pacific), so you'll definitely hear the results of the first in the nation caucus.
I hate to say it, but given the Seattle DL crowd, I'm predicting an Edwards win.
In any event, I'll be having beer at this caucus. Too bad there won't be beer at the real one.

This was posted shortly after the deadline for last night's Top Comments, so I'm formally submitting it for tonight's: In the diary entitled Impending Withdrawal Announcement, commenter MTmofo discovers that the diary topic wasn't quite what was expected.
evilpenguin points out that parties are not necessarily democracies in kos's front-page diary Iowa: What a crappy way to pick a winner.
lambertstrether says what we really need are stronger progressive institutions.
You have to start in yesterday's territory with this comment from DHinMI and follow the exchange between him and Rob Cole until you arrive in deadline borderlands at Rob's transcript of a call between Richard Nixon and coach George Allen. Don't be drinking anything when you get there, or it won't go down the right Tube.
